Good steamer, not for wood floors thoughJuly 13, 2010 HC in Arizona(Phoenix, AZ) The picture of this item is not same as item received. Not sure if the features are all the same, but seems to be what I expected other than color which was blue, not white. So far, steamer works great for most things. I love my Haan floor steamer for our hardwood floors, but its capacity is limited and I hate having to refill so often. I hoped this steamer would replace that one, plus give me more steam cleaning options. I got the other options which are great, but the floor attachment really is not conducive to doing the hard wood floors. I think the problem is that there is a border of 1/4" wide brush around the base of the attachment. So the contact with the floor is really only that 1/4" where the bristles are. Because the steam is so far from the portion that makes contact with the floor, the cloth gets too wet and leaves the floor so wet, I have to use my microfiber mop to dry the floor after a few passes so I don't end up with streak marks all over the floor.
Perhaps it is better on tile floors that are more uneven with grout lines to scrub, but I would not recommend if your primary goal is to clean wood floors. Get the Haan, I usually have to change the pad about the time I need to refill the water, and because the haan does such a good job I really don't mind.
For just about anything else though the steamer works great and you don't have to refill often.
Continuous steam mode does not last longJune 21, 2010 William J. Cotter(Braintree MA) I just purchased this unit for cleaning my Armstrong kitchen floor. I filled it with 2 cups of water (32 oz) which is supposed to yield about 30 minutes of steam. I waited for the red light to go out which indicates 'steam ready' (just the opposite from the way you would expect an indicator light to work). I was using the extension wands with the floor brush and attached the provided cloth towel. I set the steam lock button for continuous steam. The initial burst of steam was good, but after about 15 seconds, the indicator light came on and the steam output and pressure was considerably diminished. I waited for the indicator light to go out and got about another 15 seconds of good steam pressure. I got frustrated with the starting and stopping and waiting for the steam ready each time. What is the purpose of the steam lock switch if you cannot get continuous steam? Have other users noticed the 'steam non-ready' light comming on frequently? Have other users noticed the reduced steam output when the indicator light is on? I do not think my unit is defective but have decided to return it.
Great Steamer for Cleaning Tile FloorsJune 21, 2010 Chastity(FL) I purchased this steamer after using my mother-in-law's steamer from the same manufacturer that is almost 15 years old. This little guy does not have as much pressure as her older model does, but it does a great job of steaming all the tile floor in my home. I purchased this because I was sick and tired of dragging a mop and bucket around (which I knocked over a bucket of dirty water on the carpet). I also grew tired of the cost and lack of great cleaning by my swiffer. The floors dry almost immediately and I am going to use it to steam the hard water build-up on my shower doors.
Warm Mist, Not SteamMay 29, 2010 Amazonianne I suspect that the steam cools between the time it leaves the heating source and the time it arrives at the nozzle. It has a long tube to travel through. What comes out is 1/3 dripping hot water and 2/3 warm mist. The hot water burns me; I can put my hand under the mist. It's bulky and takes up a lot of storage space, but I would suffer that inconvenience happily if it produced better steam. For ease of handling, storing and steam quality, I'm siding with the handheld models.
